What does it mean to you to be successful in business?
For different entrepreneurs it means different things. Some people it’s an enormous bank account. For others, it’s the ability to give back to charity or do something day in and day out that we love. It can be that you are able to express yourself in a manner that is completely unique to the world, and manifest your destiny through your business.
Business is funny. It’s different than I thought it was. I thought I had learned everything I ever needed to know from the old adage “find a need, and fill it”. But it isn’t only that. It’s also creating innovations, and educating people about what they need. Look at Apple’s iPad. Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new.” So it’s important to not only follow trends, but also anticipate them. Entrepreneurs have to be fortune tellers, risk takers, and awesome schmoozers and marketers.
The world is both a physical and virtual place. Being able to navigate between the online reality and real world can be an interesting challenge. It’s extra work to make a presence in both places. And totally critical for business success. So I ask the question, does it constitute success to be able to navigate both realities?
I don’t have any answers just questions. I am very interested in your thoughts and feelings about business success and what makes you feel successful in your day-to-day activities as well as your big triumphs.
Is it how you treat your employees? Is it freedom? Is it peace of mind? Is it landing that great client and then delivering a great product or service to them? Your thoughts?
