A business always has its grand opening and depending on how things are run, it can close just as easily. Working from home has become increasingly popular since 1999 and may decrease overhead costs. Since many of us have family obligations, dislike the monotony of the cubicle arrangement and want the freedom to run our home business, it doesn’t have to be a fantasy. Starting a home business can be a bit daunting for many of us.
Before you begin, consider your interests and whether the competition could pose a significant problem. Ponder whether any licensing is necessary. When you’re in need of office supplies, paying a visit to a dollar store can cut costs in half. It wouldn’t hurt to create a polished letterhead and get a P.O. Box to assure customers of your professionalism. Make sure you have a dedicated phone line set up, a fax machine and an organized office with plenty of space.
If you have a sweet tooth and love chocolate, remember that chocolate manufacturers can be found all over the globe. If you decide to open a gourmet chocolate venture from your kitchen, it has to be original and must be marketed well. Perhaps a nice idea might be to sell chocolate and to teach people how to make the product. If you set up a separate space for your sweets and chocolate-making tools, clients will receive the best of both worlds.
Word-of-mouth advertising is a powerful tool for obtaining prospective customers. Another good way to attract more buyers is to pick up the phone book that’s probably been collecting dust and send a free sample, including your contact information via the mail (try to do this when the weather is cooler or ship dry ice with the chocolate). It’s extremely unlikely that anyone would refuse edible goodies. Even diabetics are permitted on rare occasions to have one small piece of candy.
