Employees are the key to any business situation. Without employees most businesses would end up collapsing and failing. However, the only way that businesses are able to maintain any type of order or control over their employees is by writing out an employee handbook. The employee handbook is the end all, be all in regards to how employees should act, what company roles are and services that are provided for by the business or company.
If you are a business that is developing an employee handbook you might be curious as to what exactly to include in the handbook. Here is a look at some of the things that every employee handbook should contain.
Job Description. This is the most essential item that should be included in any employee handbook. An outline of the job description and what is expected of employees on a work level should be written out so that everyone is on the same page.
Code of Ethics. Almost every company has some type of code of ethics that they want their employees to follow. Make sure to include this in the handbook so that employees know how they are expected to act in certain situations.
Time Off Policies. Make sure that all time off policies are outlines in the employee handbook. This can be what happens when an employee is sick, needs a vacation, takes a break, eats lunch or needs to take maternity leave. If it is all laid out for the employees they know what to expect.
Code of Conduct. These are actual physical codes and rules that employees are expected to follow. Make sure that you include every action that you expect an employee to follow in the handbook.
Dress Code. Many companies have some type of dress code. Include the outline for dress codes in the handbook. Describe what is acceptable in terms of clothing, hair and hygiene.
